It’s easy to keep your sitting-charge happy—but not always resorting to ice cream can be hard. In an effort to be the best baby-sitters in Stoneybrook we developed Kid Kits, special boxes we bring along to all of our sitting-charges, filled with essentials to make it a fun time for everyone. We make sure the outside of the box is well-decorated so the kids know it’s special, and the contents change often. The more you learn about your sitting-charges, the more personalized you can make the kit.

KRISTY’S KID KIT

KRISTY’S HIDE AND SEEK
A classic game for 1-3 year olds. The seeker will cover their eyes and slowly count aloud to ten. This allows enough time for the hider to hide.
Tip 1: Take turns being the person who hides and the person who seeks.

When hiding from your sitting-charge, don’t make it too difficult for them. Purposely peek your feet from the curtain, or hide behind an object that’s easy to find.
Tip 3:
While seeking your sitting-charge, don’t win right away. Pretend you can’t see them and ignore their laughter at your “amateur” mistakes. This makes the game more fun, especially when you can catch them off guard when they least expect it.
tip 4:
Limit hiding to a specific area. It’s good to set boundaries so you don’t actually lose your sitting-charge. Some are a little too good at hiding.

CLAUDIA’S PAPER MASKS
Step 1:
Get out your paper plate.
Step 2:
Let your sitting-charge decorate the front of the bag, keeping in mind where their eyes will be. Note: You might want to help draw the eyes for them.
Step 3:
Remove eyeholes with the rounded-scissors.
Step 4:
Wear your new mask! It can look funny, scary, or even a little bit of both. Whatever way it looks, your sitting-charge will have a blast!

MARY ANNE’S “OUR STORY” GAME
Children have some of the best imaginations around. Let them use it! All this game requires is a pen, a piece of paper, and knowing the rules.
Rule 1:
Always start the story with, “Once upon a time…”
Rule 2:
Each person is only allowed to say one sentence. After one person finishes her/his sentence, the next person continues the story from where the other left off, adding only her/his one sentence. This alternates each time until the story reaches a natural conclusion.
Tip:
Write down each sentence as it’s created, in this way you can read the whole story from beginning to end.
Optional:
Have crayons and paper ready so the sitting-charge can illustrate their favorite parts of the story you created together.

STACEY’S MUSICAL MATS
Great for groups of 3 to 8 children. This lighter version of musical chairs removes the usual roughhousing involved. In addition to a music player, you will need large pieces of paper equal to the number in your group, a marker, an additional sheet of 8.5 x 11 paper, and a bag.
Step 1:
Draw a number on each large sheet. Create up to eight of these and place them in a circle along the ground.
Step 2:
Create 8 equal-sized boxes on your regular 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. Write one number from each mat into each box.
Step 3:
Cut out the boxes with their numbers and drop the 8 numbers into your bag.
Step 4:
Let the game begin! The children will march to the sound of the music you play, going in a circle along the mats. When the music stops, they will, too. A number will then be randomly drawn from the bag. If this number matches the number on the child’s current mat, they’re out! The last person standing wins.

Hi there! This is my kid kit. Inside, you’ll find all sorts of tools to help you with your sitting-charges. I also like to include instructions for a few fun activities, check out the one below. Next time you babysit, try and put together your own kid kit!
DAWN’S PIRATE HATS
Does your sitting-charge have a spirit for adventure? All you need for this activity is a sheet of newspaper and an ability to follow folding instructions.
Step 1:
Take one page of newspaper and fold it in half.
Step 2:
Grabbing at the corners of your first fold, fold down the top left and top right corners to form a triangle that meets at the center.
Note: There will be flaps hanging from the bottom.

Step 3:
Now that you have your triangle, you will notice there are two flaps on the bottom. Fold the left flap up onto the left side. Fold the right flap onto the right side.
Step 4:
Now just open up the shape and you have a classic sailor’s hat. Wear it proud and let your sitting-charges sail the high seas of their imagination!
Optional:
Bring materials to let your sitting-charge decorate their hat. Personalization is always a nice touch.
