Son of the Mob 2: Hollywood Hustle

When Vince Luca heads for film school on the west coast, he thinks he's leaving his Mob family and all the related problems behind. But the "family business" keeps popping back into Vince's life, along with a suitcase full of money, certain members of the Luca family, and some unexpected kidnappings. Neither college, nor his relationship with his girlfriend Kendra, is going quite the way he expected.

Excerpt from SON OF THE MOB 2: HOLLYWOOD HUSTLE
by Gordon Korman

Our real destination turns out to be a small surf-style boutique called Bad Shark. They sell exactly the same clothes as the stuff I bought at Old Navy. But they're triple the price, and here each item bears the Bad Shark logo, a caricature of a leering sea predator about to gobble up a mermaid of Baywatch-like proportions.

I buy half the store.

Trey helps me haul the bags out to the Mazda. "You're going to be the bomb," he assures me.

"I'm going to be a billboard for Bad Shark. I've even got the socks, for God's sake."

"And the shades." He reaches into the pocket of his open Hawaiian shirt and pulls out a pair of sleek steel-rimmed sunglasses with the ever-present Bad Shark on the temples. "To complete the effect."

I stare at him. "You didn't pay for those!"

"Sure I did."

"Show me the receipt."

He shrugs. "I didn't keep it. Come on, hombre, don't give me a hard time about getting my roommate a little 'welcome to L.A.' present."

I thank him, but I practically choke over it. I can't prove anything of course, but there's no way he paid for those sunglasses.

Like there isn't enough crime in my life already, my roommate is a kleptomaniac.
