Becoming A Scholastic Customer

Q: How do I become a Scholastic customer?

A:
Please contact our Customer Service department. They will be able to guide you through the application process and provide you with a comprehensive New Accounts Kit. 

Below you will find some of the forms necessary for completing the application process, as well as general information about Trade accounts.  Simply click on the form you would like to print, complete it and return it to Scholastic Canada using one of the methods listed below.

8:00 am - 6:00 pm EST. Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm EST.

Our Summer hours July 2nd - Labour day are weekdays from

Trade Catalogues

Q: How do I obtain a Trade catalogue?

A:
Trade catalogues can be obtained through our Customer Service Department or online in PDF form via our catalogue page.


Placing an Order

Q: How do I place my first order?

A:
You may mail or fax your completed new account application with your order and 50% pre-payment that is required.
See Method of Payment.

Any orders you place after the initial order can be faxed, mailed, phoned, sent by E-Mail or telebook and an invoice will be generated. See above for fax, phone, and E-Mail information.

On-line ordering is not available at this time.

Q: What is your discount policy?

A:
We discount on a sliding scale and offer a 50% Non-Returnable policy if you prefer it to a sliding scale discount.

Sliding Scale Discount for a Retail Bookstore:
1-24 assorted books . . . . . 20%
25-149 assorted books . . . 40%
150-299 assorted books . . .42%
300-499 assorted books . . . 43%
500 + assorted books . . . . . .45%
*NON-RETURNABLE DISCOUNT . . . . 50%

*All non-returnable business with Scholastic will be considered fully non-returnable on an ongoing basis.

Non-Returnable accounts MAY NOT revert back to the sliding scale.

The Retail Wholesale Discount Schedule - $20,000.00 net sales & over annually will receive a 50% discount. These accounts must be kept current and returns must be 20% or less of total annual sales. 
**Reviewed annually.

Q: Can I combine orders from different catalogues?

A:
Yes you can.  Orders that you place together from different catalogues will be combined and shipped together.

Q: Can I add to my order after I have placed it?

A:
No. Any orders placed after an initial order will be entered into the system as a new order.

Q: Will I be able to order Education items?

A:
The product found in the Education catalogues is available only to schools/school boards. These individuals must order directly from Scholastic.  As you may or may not know, Scholastic Canada's Education Division has sales representatives across Canada who are servicing the school market.


Shipping and Returns

Q: How can I return merchandise?

A:
Returns may only be made between 3(three) & 12(twelve) months from the invoice date.
All returns must be prepaid. Collect shipments will not be accepted. 'Returns' and claim number must be clearly marked on all cartons.

Only full book returns EXCEPT, all movie tie-ins are strippable.

All books must be resaleable (mint) condition and documentation must be included along with the ISBN.

Returns are sent at customer's risk. Credit will not be issued on return shipments lost in transit.

All returns will be credited at a flat rate of 46% unless invoice numbers accompany the return, in which case the return will be credited at the original purchased price.

Q: Do you charge shipping and handling?

A:
We do not charge a shipping fee. If a customer is requesting a rush order by courier then we will make the necessary arrangements and invoice for this service. 

Q: What is Scholastic's 100% Guarantee?

A:
We guarantee that items arrive at your location in saleable condition or they can be returned for 100% credit or refund.


Methods of Payment

Q: What are your payment terms?

A:
Scholastic's payment terms are net 30 days.

Q: Can I use one cheque to pay for more than one invoice?

A:
Yes, you may use one cheque to pay for more than one invoice. Please be sure to include your Scholastic account number and your invoice numbers with your payment.

Q: Do you accept credit card payments?

A:
Yes. You may use VISA or MASTERCARD if you wish to pay by credit card.

Q: How can I arrange to have an author/illustrator visit my store or library?

A:
Most authors arrange their own visits to schools and libraries and have information about bookings on their websites. If you are a store wanting to arrange an event with an author, please contact:
